Additionally, brazed joints possess excellent resistance to heat and corrosion.

The process of brazing involves cleaning the metal surfaces thoroughly, similar to soldering. Flux is then applied to prevent oxidation during heating. Once the parts are properly positioned and aligned, heat is applied using a torch or furnace until the braze alloy melts and flows into the joint area through capillary action. After cooling, a robust and durable bond is formed.

While both soldering and brazing have their advantages, it’s important for blacksmiths to understand when each technique should be used. Soldering excels in delicate applications that require lower temperatures and provide more flexibility due to its lower strength compared to brazed joints. Brazing, on the other hand, offers superior strength and durability but requires higher temperatures.
