7. Grinding: Once the blade has been heat treated, it is ground to its final shape. The blacksmith uses various grits of abrasive belts or stones to remove excess material, refine the edge, and create bevels. This step requires precision and steady hands as even minor errors can affect the blade’s performance.

8. Finishing: After grinding, the blade undergoes polishing to give it a smooth surface finish. This enhances aesthetics while also protecting against corrosion. Some bladesmiths may choose to etch their blades with acid or other compounds to bring out intricate patterns in Damascus or pattern-welded steel.

9.Handle Construction: A well-crafted handle not only provides ergonomic grip but also complements the overall design of the blade. Handles can be made from various materials such as wood, bone, horn, or synthetic materials like G-10 or Micarta. The chosen material is carefully shaped and attached securely using adhesives and pins.

10.Final Touches: Lastly, any additional decorative elements such as engravings or embellishments are added before giving the blade a final polish using buffing wheels loaded with fine abrasives.
