1. Butt Joint:
The butt joint is one of the simplest welding joints, where two flat surfaces are joined by placing them parallel to each other. To prepare a butt joint, ensure both edges are clean and free from contaminants or rust. Beveling or chamfering the edges before welding can increase the strength of the joint.

2. Lap Joint:
In a lap joint, one piece overlaps another partially or completely. This design provides increased surface area for welding, resulting in a stronger connection. It’s crucial to remove any paint or coatings on the overlapping portion before welding.

3. T-Joint:
As its name suggests, this type of joint forms a “T” shape when two metal pieces intersect at right angles. Proper preparation involves ensuring precise alignment between both surfaces while removing any burrs or sharp edges that may interfere with penetration during welding.

4. Corner Joint:
Corner joints are formed when two metal pieces meet at an angle perpendicular to each other. Before initiating welding on corner joints, it’s important to clean both surfaces thoroughly using appropriate tools such as wire brushes or sandpaper.

5. Edge Joint:

6. Fillet Weld:

7. Groove Joint:

8. V-Groove Joint:

9. Plug Weld:
In plug welding, one piece has holes drilled into it while another is placed behind it so that the holes align perfectly. The preparation involves accurately drilling matching holes in both pieces and deburring them before welding.

10. Spot Weld:
Spot welding joins two or more metal sheets by applying heat on small areas called spots until they fuse together. Proper cleaning of surfaces prior to spot welding helps ensure good electrical conductivity between electrodes and workpieces.

11. Backing Strip Joint:
Backing strip joints are commonly used when joining thick metals or pipes with limited access from one side only. A backing strip made of compatible material fills the gap between the metal pieces while providing support during welding.
