From Rapper to Actor to Blacksmith: Will Smith’s Multifaceted Talents

Will Smith is a man of many talents. He started as a rapper in the 80s, transitioned to acting in the 90s, and has since become one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. But did you know that he also has an interest in blacksmithing? Yes, you read that right – Will Smith is a modern-day blacksmith.

Smith’s love for metalworking began when he was filming “Wild Wild West” back in 1999. In the movie, his character used various gadgets and weapons made out of metal. To prepare for the role, Smith underwent training with master blacksmith Tony Swatton. The two became fast friends, and Swatton taught Smith some basic blacksmithing skills.

Fast forward to today, and it seems that Smith’s passion for blacksmithing hasn’t waned. In fact, he recently shared on his YouTube channel that he had built his own forge at home during quarantine.

In the video titled “How I Built My Home Forge,” Smith takes us through the process of building his own forge from scratch using materials that are readily available from any hardware store. He explains how important it is to have a good airflow system in your forge so that you can control the temperature when heating up metals.

But why would someone like Will Smith get into blacksmithing? According to him, it’s all about creativity and problem-solving – two things that are essential for any actor or artist.

Blacksmithing allows him to create something tangible with his hands while also providing an outlet for stress relief. And let’s face it – there’s just something cool about being able to say you made your own sword or knife.

But don’t think that just because Will Smith is making swords at home means he’s ready to take on Thor or Captain America anytime soon. When asked if he could beat Chris Hemsworth (who plays Thor) in a fight during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Smith replied, “No way! I’m a blacksmith. I make weapons for Thor. That’s how that works.”

Smith’s interest in blacksmithing is just one example of his many talents and hobbies outside of acting. He’s also an avid photographer, has written a book about his life experiences, and is known to be quite the prankster on set.

In conclusion, Will Smith may be best known for his acting career, but there’s so much more to him than meets the eye. His love for blacksmithing is just another aspect of his multifaceted personality – one that combines creativity with practicality and provides a welcome break from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll see Will Smith forge his own superhero suit or perhaps even create something big enough to sell at auction (yes – he did once put up some personal items on eBay).
