Will Smith Takes Up Blacksmithing as a New Hobby

Will Smith: The Modern Blacksmith

When you think of blacksmiths, the image of a burly man in a leather apron hammering away at molten metal likely comes to mind. But what about Will Smith? Yes, that’s right – the actor and musician has taken up blacksmithing as a hobby.

In an interview with Esquire magazine, Smith revealed that he became interested in blacksmithing while filming his upcoming movie “King Richard,” where he plays the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams. He spent time with real-life blacksmiths to prepare for his role and found himself drawn to the craft.

Now, Smith has set up his own forge in his backyard and frequently shares videos on social media of him working on various projects. His creations range from knives and axes to elaborate sculptures.

But is this just another celebrity trying their hand at something new for attention? Not necessarily. In fact, it seems like blacksmithing has become somewhat of a trend among celebrities in recent years.

Actor Nick Offerman has been outspoken about his love for woodworking and even released a book titled “Good Clean Fun” about his experiences building furniture. Actress Kristen Bell has also shared her passion for crafting on social media, including some impressive metalworking projects.

So why are these high-profile individuals taking up hobbies typically associated with manual labor? Perhaps it’s because they’re seeking an escape from their fast-paced lifestyles or simply looking for a new challenge. Or maybe they just appreciate the satisfaction that comes with creating something by hand.

Either way, it’s refreshing to see celebrities embrace traditional crafts like blacksmithing. It helps bring attention to these often overlooked trades and reminds us that anyone can learn new skills if they put their mind to it.

Who knows – maybe we’ll see more famous faces donning leather aprons and wielding hammers in the future. But until then, we’ll be keeping an eye on Will Smith and his impressive blacksmithing skills.
