High-carbon steels have more than 0.6% carbon by weight making them very hard but also very brittle – they’re prone to cracking under stress if not treated properly during manufacturing or use! High-carbon steels are often used for cutting tools like knives or saw blades where toughness isn’t as critical as edge retention.
