Punching involves making holes in metal using a punch and hammer. This technique was used extensively in medieval times when armorers needed to create ventilation holes or decorative designs on their armor.

3. Riveting
Riveting involves joining two pieces of metal together using a rivet – a narrow piece of metal with a head at one end and a tapered shaft at the other end. The rivet is heated until it becomes red hot and hammered into place while still hot so that it expands inside the hole, creating a strong bond between the two pieces.

4. Filing
Filing is an essential part of blacksmithing that involves smoothing out rough edges or surfaces using files made from hardened steel or carbide-tipped blades attached to rotary grinders.

5. Annealing
Annealing is the process where metal is heated up until it reaches its critical temperature then cooled slowly over an extended period allowing for increased ductility without causing brittleness or cracking during forging processes such as shaping or bending.

6. Hardening & Tempering
Hardening & Tempering heat treatment processes transform raw materials into finished products by altering their physical properties through heating and cooling cycles. Hardening makes the metal harder, while tempering reduces its hardness but increases toughness.

In conclusion, blacksmithing is a craft that has been passed down through generations, and although modern techniques have evolved over time, traditional methods still hold up to this day.
