Methods of Peening Sheet Metal

To dish, start by marking out the desired shape on your sheet metal using chalk or soapstone. Then, use a ball-peen hammer with its rounded end to strike the metal repeatedly in a circular motion until it starts to form into the desired curve. 3. Flattening – Flattening involves hammering down raised areas on sheet metal surfaces to create evenness across all sections of the piece being worked upon; this method can also help remove warps caused by heat treatment processes such as welding or brazing.
