“Ferrite Magnets: The Ceramic Powerhouses of Modern Blacksmithing and Beyond”

Ferrite magnets are a type of permanent magnet made from iron oxide and barium or strontium carbonate. They are also called ceramic magnets because they are made by a process similar to that used to make pottery. Ferrite magnets have high coercivity, which means they resist demagnetization better than other types of magnets.

These magnets have many applications in modern blacksmithing, including magnetic chucks for holding workpieces during machining operations, magnetic tool holders for organizing tools in the shop, and magnetic sweepers for picking up metal debris from the floor.

In addition to their use in blacksmithing, ferrite magnets are also used in motors, speakers, and sensors. They are inexpensive compared to other types of magnets and can be easily mass-produced.

However, ferrite magnets do have some disadvantages. They have lower energy density than neodymium or samarium cobalt magnets, which means they generate less magnetic force per unit volume. They also tend to be brittle and can break if dropped or subjected to impact.

Despite these limitations, ferrite magnets remain an important part of modern blacksmithing and other industries where their unique properties make them useful for a variety of applications.
