Emma Watson Talks Modern Blacksmithing and Sustainability

Interview with Emma Watson on Modern Blacksmithing

Emma Watson is a well-known actress, model, and activist. She has been in the public eye since she was just nine years old when she starred in the Harry Potter movie series as Hermione Granger. Since then, she has become an advocate for gender equality and environmental sustainability.

Recently, Emma has taken up blacksmithing as a hobby. We sat down with her to discuss her love for this craft and how it fits into her life.

Q: How did you get started with blacksmithing?

A: I had always been interested in metalworking but didn’t know much about it. One day, I stumbled upon a video of someone forging steel into beautiful objects using traditional techniques. I was completely mesmerized by the process and knew that I had to try it myself.

Q: What drew you to blacksmithing specifically?

A: There’s something really special about working with your hands and creating something from scratch. With blacksmithing, you’re able to take raw material like iron or steel and turn it into something functional or beautiful. It’s also incredibly satisfying to see your finished product after putting so much time and effort into it.

Q: Do you have any favorite projects that you’ve worked on?

A: One of my favorites is a set of fireplace tools that I made for my home. They’re not only functional but also serve as a decorative piece in my living room. Another project that I enjoyed was making a set of knives for some friends who are chefs.

Q: How do you balance your acting career with your hobbies like blacksmithing?

A: It can be challenging at times because both require a lot of time and energy. However, I find that having hobbies outside of acting actually helps me stay focused when it comes time to work on a film or project. Blacksmithing allows me to clear my mind and unwind after long days on set.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is interested in getting started with blacksmithing?

A: I would say just go for it! There are so many resources available online and in-person workshops that can help you get started. It’s also important to remember that like any craft, it takes time and practice to develop your skills. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or try new things.

Q: How does blacksmithing fit into your overall philosophy of sustainability and environmentalism?

A: Blacksmithing has a long history of being a sustainable craft. By using traditional methods, we’re able to create objects that are built to last and won’t end up in a landfill after just a few years of use. Additionally, many blacksmiths work with recycled materials which helps reduce waste and lessen the demand for new resources.

Q: Do you see yourself continuing with blacksmithing for the foreseeable future?

A: Absolutely! It’s become such an important part of my life and something that brings me so much joy. I’m excited to continue learning and growing as a blacksmith.

It’s clear from our conversation with Emma Watson that her passion for sustainability extends beyond just her activism work but also into her hobbies like blacksmithing. We look forward to seeing what other beautiful creations she will forge in the future.
