4. Lap Joint

A lap joint is a simple but effective way of joining two pieces of metal together at their ends. It involves overlapping two pieces of metal by a certain distance before welding them together.

5. Scarf Joint

A scarf joint creates a sloping surface between two pieces of metal that are joined together at an angle using welding or riveting techniques. This technique was commonly used in shipbuilding where it allowed for long planks to be joined end-to-end creating very long boats without compromising strength or stability.

Scarf joints require great skill from blacksmiths since they must maintain precise angles while hammering the metals into shape before securing them with either rivets or welding.
