Chris Hemsworth: The Modern Blacksmith

Chris Hemsworth: The Modern Blacksmith

Chris Hemsworth is a name that needs no introduction. From playing the role of Thor in Marvel Cinematic Universe to starring in action films like Extraction, his on-screen presence has made him one of the most popular actors in Hollywood. However, what many people don’t know about him is his passion for blacksmithing and how he uses it as an escape from the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown.

Growing up, Chris was fascinated by swords and armor. He would often watch movies featuring knights and warriors and dreamt of becoming one himself. His interest in blacksmithing began when he was filming Thor in 2010. In preparation for the role, he spent time with a blacksmith to learn how to forge weapons and armor.

The experience had such an impact on him that he continued practicing it even after filming ended. He set up a workshop at his home where he could hammer away at metal and create beautiful pieces of art.

In an interview with GQ Australia, Chris explained that “the process of creating something tangible out of raw materials is incredibly satisfying.” For him, blacksmithing is not just a hobby but also a form of therapy. It allows him to disconnect from technology and focus solely on the task at hand.

Over the years, Chris has become quite skilled at blacksmithing. He has posted several videos on Instagram showcasing his creations ranging from knives to axes to intricate sculptures.

One notable project was when he forged Mjolnir, Thor’s legendary hammer featured prominently in Norse mythology as well as Marvel Comics’ version of Thor stories which propelled Chris into stardom first portrayed back in 2011’s ‘Thor’. In the video which went viral online Hemsworth can be seen putting all his effort into crafting every detail onto Mjolnir’s handle including its characteristic knotwork design using traditional techniques.

But more than just making cool stuff, Chris has also used his blacksmithing skills for a good cause. In 2018, he auctioned off one of his knives to raise funds for the Australian Childhood Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps children who have experienced trauma and abuse.

Chris’s interest in blacksmithing has not gone unnoticed by the community. He was even invited to be a guest judge on Forged in Fire, a reality TV show where bladesmiths compete against each other to create the best weapons.

In an episode which aired in June 2020 Hemsworth appeared as himself during the show’s “Titanium Champion” competition. During his appearance, he presented the contestants with a challenge that involved creating an axe inspired by Mjolnir using traditional blacksmithing techniques.

His presence on the show brought much-needed attention to the art of blacksmithing and helped shed light on its importance both historically and present-day given it is still practised around world albeit not always with modern tools or techniques.

In conclusion, Chris Hemsworth is more than just a Hollywood superstar. His passion for blacksmithing highlights how important it is for individuals to find hobbies or interests outside their work life. And while his skills are impressive, what makes him extraordinary is how he uses them to bring awareness to important causes and inspire others into practicing this ancient trade in all its modern forms!
